Messing up a Good Thing
Don’t you hate it when you work your tail off to create a great web site, one that validates and everything — then some other person or group comes along behind you and screws it all up? I just recently did a complete overhaul of a government website for an advertising agency.
Being the perfectionist that I am, I wanted it to be done right so I made sure that it validated as XHTML 1.1 strict, which is no small feat, especially when doing a site for a government agency which has all kinds of requirements and inclusions.
Turns out, however, this government agency had a contract with another web developer, so now they have taken over maintenance of the site. The problem is that every page they touch will no longer validate. It’s just going to become another site out there that is a mish-mash of bad HTML and will display differently on every computer or browser out there. I just hate it when someone un-does what I have done. I drives me nuts.
